Hi Reader! "How can I focus my target audience so my message reaches the right people?" I was shocked (shocked, I say!) when I was starting out and the first question my business coach asked me was, "Who's your target audience?". What? That's a thing? Yes. It's the first question you'll need to answer and articulate if you want to create any marketing material, a logo, a website, or introduce yourself clearly at networking events. Every graphic designer, web designer, marketing strategist, or business coach will ask you this question. My answer was, "People with money!" (smart aleck to the death). Seriously, I had to think about it and pick a lane. Here are some questions to ponder to identify and focus your target audience and ideal clients: 1. Who do you want to work with? Who floats your boat? Honestly, it's as simple as that. There's a group out there who feels right and natural for you. These people may already be coming to you for help, but you haven't noticed they're a unique type. 2. Who DON'T you want to work with, like, ever? You must decide who these people are and know the things they say. ⚡️ You get to pick anyone you want to repel, for any reason you want, no explanation required. Just because you don't. 3. What problem do you solve for them? What solution do they want? A niche is the problem you solve FOR a specific target audience. A niche isn't The Target Audience per se. A niche is a group of people who share a similar problem or are in situation they don't like and you can help them get to a better place. ⚡️ When you know the problem you solve and the solution you deliver, marketing and promoting your business feels exciting, not terrifying and mysterious THE BOTTOM LINE Decisions must be made. Lanes must be picked if you want a money-making business that makes you happy. Where are you circling the drain about choosing your target audience? |
Can people understand you when you answer the question, "What do you do?". I teach people how to describe what they do in ONE short sentence so they're understood, referred, and hired.
Hiya Reader! Why does your business exist? What is its purpose? Yeah, I know - it's a deep question and the one we never think to answer when we launch ourselves into the world. When you know the answer, you'll be <this much> closer to understanding why someone should hire you, join your class, or attend your webinar.I spent a couple of hours with a client yesterday answering ONE question: Why does her program exist? Yes, it takes time - and the willingness to really dig into the what-ness of...
I don't know if you do this, Reader, but I just landed on a ton of LinkedIn profiles where I could NOT tell what the person did because they used cute, incomprehensible words to describe it. If I'm searching for someone who does what you do because I need to hire them or I have a client I could refer to them, Ima use plain old simple words. Something I'll never search for: a chief anything, storytelling goddess, website magician, marketing ninja, or sales guru. If I can't understand what you...
Hi Reader! I just came from a networking event and someone mentioned they were working with a coach on their "story." I was like, "uh oh."Then she said, "I want to serve anyone" and "it really doesn't matter what their business is."😳 At the end of our chat, I asked her how I could help her and she said, "I'm offering a group program in the fall so if you hear of anyone who needs my help, send them to me."But I can't because I don't know who's the right audience for her. It all starts with...
